Flatford is a large site and includes much of 'Constable Country' where the painter did some of his most famous paintings. The Trust aims to keep the landscape looking similar to how Constable would have seen it.

Work: Each year we need to clear out the dry dock that was used in Constables day. The "spong" (a spit of land) needs to be cleared and weeds pulled from pond (by boat). This is part of Constables famous "Hay wayne" picture.

Directions: Go to East Bergholt and follow signs to Flatford. By the Kings Head pub is a crossroads, with a sign to the right. Follow lane down to Flatford. At the bottom (before the public car park) is a narrow lane on the left. Follow this down past Bridge Cottage and the restaurant. Keep going until you get to Flatford Mill, with pond on right. Go along the gravel road, Willy Lott’s cottage is in front of you, turn left into the field and park next to the fence.
